The Division of Career Pathways has a variety of workshops to assist graduate students with their career development. Most graduate student workshops are located in the Graduate & Postdoctoral Scholar Resource Center (GPSRC) unless otherwise noted. Workshops and labs typically run from 1 to 1.5 hours.

- Job Search Strategies for Grad Students
Learn how to research and understand the job market. Discover how to narrow your search, locate jobs, and market yourself to business and industry.
- Resume Writing for Grad Students
Take your resume to the next level. Learn how to tailor your content to the job description so employers see how your skills and experiences suit their needs. Plus we’ll discuss the purpose, format, and content of a targeted cover letter.
- Enhancing your Resume Lab
All of the great content from our Resume Writing for Grad Students workshop in a drop-in format. This lab will include dedicated time for you to implement what you just learned with the opportunity to ask questions. Be sure to bring a draft resume either printed or on your laptop!
- Resume and CV Lab
Drop-in any time during this lab for hands-on help with your resume and/or CV! Whether you’re writing your first resume/CV or just need help with tailoring it to a specific job, Division of Career Pathways staff will be available to answer questions and provide feedback on content and formatting. Be sure to bring your laptop or a printed draft!
- Writing a CV
This workshop explains the purpose, format, and content of the Curriculum Vitae. Learn how to create and critique your academic CV and how to tailor your CV to different institution types and highlight your best assets.
- Converting your CV into a Resume
Looking to apply to internships or non-academic jobs? Come learn how to convert your CV into a resume! In this workshop you will learn the differences between a CV and a resume, when to use which, and how to communicate your skills to a broader job search market. Bring your laptop or a printed draft of your CV and/or resume to make edits during this session.
- Interview Techniques and Practice
The key to interview success is preparation and practice. It’s not necessarily the most qualified who gets the job, but the person who knows how to make a great impression. Discover the techniques to rise above the competition and lower interview anxiety by preparing well with some practice!
- Preparing for the Academic Interview
Learn about the various types of positions available, where to look for positions, and get an overview of the entire job search process. This session is full of tips and resources to help you successfully navigate the academic job search.
- Networking and Your Professional Brand
Building a professional brand opens up the professional and networking opportunities necessary to establish a successful career. This session will get you started to ensure success when marketing yourself to future employers, funders and beyond.
- Optimize Your Job Search
With countless resources available online to assist you on your career journey, it’s hard to know which ones are worthwhile. Come learn about useful career-related resources available to you as a UCI student! This session will feature an overview and demo of career technologies and one-on-one assistance from Division of Career Pathways staff to help get you started. Topics will include: Big Interview, ImaginePhD, Versatile PhD, and more. Be sure to bring your laptop!
