Networking is often cited as the #1 way to land a job or internship. Establishing mutually beneficial relationships can result in immediate or long-term results. Networking can happen anywhere – in class, at work, in your residence hall, through a club on campus or even online! The following resources can help you leverage your networks and build confidence and skills to make connections.

Informational interviews are a great way to connect with professionals to learn about industries you may want to pursue. This is one of the best ways to gather information on the requirements, rewards, and even day-to-day responsibilities of working in a specific industry or corporation from someone on the inside.

To initiate an informational interview, contact the professional by email, phone, or send a message through LinkedIn or the Anteater Network and ask if you can connect with them to learn more about what it's like to work in their occupation. Schedule a time to chat over the phone or schedule a virtual meeting. Prior to your meeting, research the company and develop some questions that you would like to ask (check out the Informational Interview Quick Tip for some suggestions). Be sure and send a thank you note within 24 hours of your meeting.
