Student Center, Doheny Beach ABCD, Irvine, CA 92697, USA

Representatives from leading Taiwanese companies will be at UCI to share information about the entry level opportunities in engineering and business. Students of all majors, degree levels, backgrounds, and language abilities are encouraged to attend. Opportunities offered are both domestic and international. For the real time list of participating companies visit https://www.ContactTAIWAN.tw/event/2019UCI.

Why Taiwan

Working: Taiwan is very active in R&D and product innovation. It provides high-quality products and services, which enables the development of international brands. Taiwan also has easy access to Mainland China's production resources, which makes the rapid achievement of mass production possible. Taiwan's wealth of production experience, ability to commercialize innovative products rapidly and its geographic position all are factors that help Taiwan create a value-added global production chain.
-Business etiquette is formal; workplace culture is similar to that found in the West.
-A typical work schedule is 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, but many will work longer hours.
-Punctuality and good manners are important; handshakes are the most common greeting.
-Most people should be addressed by their formal titles, such as ‘Chairman’ or ‘Manager.’
-Office attire is conservative: dark suits for men and modest clothing for women.

Living: The culture of Taiwan is an exciting melting pot of Chinese, Japanese and Western influences. Most of Taiwan’s 23 million inhabitants are descendants of immigrants from different parts of Mainland China, especially the coastal province of Fujian on the opposite side of the Taiwan Strait. Members of indigenous tribes of Austronesian origin make up about 2% of the population. Since the 1970s, as democracy and social openness have thrived, Taiwan’s cultural diversity has flourished. Fine arts, folk traditions and popular culture embody traditional and modern Asian and Western motifs.
-Most people are ethnic Chinese, but there is much Japanese and Western influence.
-Democracy and social openness thrive here, allowing cultural diversity to flourish.
-Punctuality is expected; if you're going to be late for an appointment, call ahead.
-Smoking is banned in most indoor public places and some outdoor areas.
-Confucianism emphasizes duty, honor and respect for age.
-Guanxi – loosely, 'relationships' – is a powerful force in Taiwan.

For more information about living and working in Taiwan visit GoinGlobal found in the Resources section of Handshake.
