Resume vs CV
A resume is a document (typically one page) summarizing your skills, experiences, and accomplishments. An effective resume succinctly describes your education and experience as it relates to your targeted position. Several sample resumes are included in our job search guide.
Your resume may or may not resemble these samples depending on your personal preferences and background. At the end of the day, you want to be comfortable and confident with your own materials.
CV (Curriculum Vitae)
A CV is similar to a resume but includes four additional sections:
- research experience
- teaching/mentoring experience
- publications or poster presentations
- and references
Outside the United States, CV and resume are synonymous. If you need assistance or would like to have your resume or CV reviewed, please be sure to come to our drop in hours at the Career Center, Monday through Friday 11am – 3pm, during the academic year.
